About Holly Kendall
Holly is a Sydney-based artist whose nature-inspired, layered abstract works explore connection to place, memory and inner landscapes. Through textured layers, instinctive colour and bold, expressive marks, Holly’s abstract paintings offer a deeply personal reflection on the stories that shape us.
Her latest series, Veiled Botanica, explores the ways everything in nature, and in us, is connected. The lines in her work follow hidden systems that run through and around us: roots branching under the soil, rivers carving paths across land, and the fine networks of veins, mycelium, and nerves. These repeating patterns create a kind of visual language of connection that echoes throughout the natural world.
The lines carry a quiet sense of energy, something you can feel more than see. They move across the surface like currents, linking shapes, holding tension, and guiding the eye through layers of memory and place.
They also hint at the invisible ties between people, the threads that link us to each other, to the land, and to shared experience.
Ultimately, the work reminds us that nothing stands alone. Everything is part of a larger, living network.
Holly aims for her paintings to evoke a sense of connection. “I love the connection I make with collectors of my art. It brings me joy to know that something in the work resonates, that it stirs an emotion, a place or a memory they hold close.”
